Farewell, Mr. Keating. You will be missed.

"I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone, it’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone."

As I was searching for a picture of Mr. Williams, I noticed something constant on his face. Despite that engaging smile and charming vibe, his eyes are sad and empty. He must be truly a great actor to fool almost everyone about his struggle. The sketch above was taken from Dead Poet’s Society. It was his farewell scene but I changed the look of his eyes to gaze towards us. And I feel strangely sorry for what he he went through…alone despite being surrounded by many. May he find peace and solace in the life after.

When you’re sad, tell someone.

Farewell, Mr. Keating. Oh Captain, my captain.

Being a Michigan native, it is fitting that the heavens poured out its saddest and heaviest tears all day today. The world lost a great talent and a wonderful human. Thank you for the laughters. Prayers to a lost soul. RIP, Mr. Robin Williams.

As a child, I knew Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire and Genie in Aladdin. Later, I saw his Oscar-winning performance in Good Will Hunting. But it was a film I saw quite recently that impacted me the most. Last summer, I watched Dead Poets Society for the first time, and his performance as Mr. Keating really got me. The movie quickly became a favorite of mine, and his character’s words echoed in my mind as I declared my English major and thought about my future and my dedication to literature. Robin Williams taught me so much through that role and made me want to stand on my desk and salute him with the boys.
Farewell, O Captain! My Captain!
